White Elephant Stamp
White Elephant Stamp

The stamp is 1 1/4 inches X 1 1/2 inches.  It is on a glass plate in the shape of an envelope addressed to Mr. & Mrs. Claus.  To be clear, the only part which I painted was the stamp.  It is on a small piece of canvas which in turn has been taped to the plate.

This painting was made as a spoof for a "white elephant" gift.  Below is my little story that goes with this piece (note:  the mention of the "Scag farm" is derived from SCAG... Stanwood Camano Arts Guild):

This package includes an original commemorative stamp to honor the seasonal migration of the snow elephant (aka: white elephant) to the Pacific NorthWest.

The stamp depicts the first sighting for the year which was discovered at the prestigious Scag Farm near Stanwood, Washington. This unusual early sighting, without geese, made it more easy to capture the trio in a photo that was used as a basis for this commemorative stamp.

Normal migrations are more difficult to spot because the snow elephants are fond of hiding in the fields with geese. A sharp eye, a flask of liquid fortification, and much patience are requirements for any aspiring photographer wishing to capture this annual event on film, or what ever it is that digital cameras use.
